Some of you may wonder why our office in Kent is referred to as our London Gateway Office, well if you are in the Ocean Freight business then you would have heard about the construction of the UK’s newest deep-sea container port, located 25 miles east of central London. The new port boasts Europe’s largest logistics park, and Horizon were kindly invited along to see the construction work.
Callum Aldrich, our Customer Service Manager, visit the site on the 4th of October last year, along with a few other guests and local Members of Parliament.
About the Port
Once complete, London Gateway will create 12,000 direct jobs and over 20,000 indirect jobs. It will enable the world’s largest container ships to call at the heart of the UK’s economic and population centre. The port’s highly efficient road, rail and sea links will offer a quicker, cheaper and more environmentally-friendly way to transport goods to their destination.
In an address to 500 guests who attended the event, Secretary of State for Business Dr Vince Cable said:
“The opening of London Gateway in just two years’ time will transform the UK’s maritime port infrastructure and play an important role in helping Britain’s economy grow in the coming years. It will help Britain to maintain its competitiveness, drive productivity, and crucially strengthen our links with Asia and beyond.”
